The purpose of industrial engineering is to reduce or eliminate wasted time, energy, materials, man-hours, and other resources that generate no value. Industrial engineering is focused on the development, improvement, and implementation of integrated systems consisting of people, capital, knowledge/information, energy, materials, analysis, and synthesis, or any combination thereof. The discipline is further concerned with bringing mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with engineering design principles and processes, with the intention of specifying, predicting, and evaluating the results obtained from such systems/processes.
